Adelboden sits at the head of the Engstligen valley in the Bernese Oberland, and it is best known for one weekend a year: the Chuenisbärgli slalom and giant slalom, one of the loudest events on the World Cup circuit. The rest of the season it is a large, family-oriented resort linked to neighbouring Lenk.

The skiing
Adelboden and Lenk share one lift pass across several linked sectors, giving a network large enough for a week. The terrain is predominantly intermediate and the resort has a long-standing reputation as a family destination rather than an extreme one.
The Chuenisbärgli, the World Cup slope, is skiable outside race weekend and is considerably steeper than most of what surrounds it.
The World Cup weekend
Each January, Adelboden hosts men’s giant slalom and slalom races that draw tens of thousands of spectators into a valley with one road in. That weekend, accommodation across the region is committed months in advance and road access is heavily managed.
If you are travelling then, book everything as early as possible. If you are not, avoid those dates — the valley is at capacity.
Summer
Same transfer price, faster roads. The Engstligen falls above the village are among the highest waterfalls in Switzerland, and the area is a hiking base with a cable car network that stays open through the season.
