Verbier

The furthest destination on this site, anchoring the 4 Vallées — with an honest look at whether Geneva is your better arrival airport.

Verbier is the furthest destination on this site from Zurich Airport — 281 km, over three hours — and for most travellers heading there, Geneva is the closer airport. This page exists because plenty of people land at Zurich anyway: the long-haul network is wider, and a connecting flight to Geneva often costs more time than the drive.

The skiing

Verbier anchors the 4 Vallées, the largest linked ski area in Switzerland, spreading across several valleys to Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. The Mont-Fort at just over 3,300 m is the high point and the reliable snow.

The resort’s reputation is built on off-piste terrain and on a season-long freeride scene — Verbier hosts the final of the Freeride World Tour. It is not primarily a beginner’s mountain, though the linked area is large enough to contain terrain for everyone.

The village sits at around 1,500 m on a sunny shelf above the Val de Bagnes, reached by a switchback road up from Le Châble.
