Zurich has more places to eat than most airports its size, split across three areas that are not interchangeable: airside after security, landside in the Airport Center, and The Circle, the district built onto the airport.
Which one you can use depends on where you are in your journey, and the price difference between them is real.

The recommendation, if you have the time: The Circle. It is a few minutes’ covered walk from the terminal, it is landside so anyone can use it, and the restaurants are priced as restaurants rather than as airport concessions. For a family, or for a wait of two hours or more, the difference is substantial.

Do not go exploring. Grab something in the Airside Center or at the dock and stay where you can hear announcements.

Enough time to sit properly. Check where your gate is first — Dock E adds passport control and the Skymetro.
The Circle, if you can
Landside, so only if you are not yet through security or can go back out. Better food, better prices.

What to expect of Swiss airport pricing
Switzerland is expensive and airports are expensive, and the two compound. A coffee and a sandwich airside costs what a light meal costs in many countries. This is not a Zurich problem specifically — it is the price level of the country.
Two ways to soften it. Eat landside, at the Airport Center or The Circle, where the pricing is closer to normal. Or use a lounge — if you have access or would pay for entry anyway, food and drink are included and the arithmetic often works out better than buying the same things separately. See lounges.
Practical notes
Sunday. The airport is one of the few places in Switzerland where restaurants and shops are open on a Sunday, because airport retail is exempt from the national closing rules. Locals come out here for exactly that — see opening hours.
Early mornings. Outlets open ahead of the first departures, so a 05:00 coffee is not a problem, though the full choice arrives later.
Water. Swiss tap water is excellent and drinking fountains exist. Fill a bottle after security rather than buying one.
Dietary requirements. Vegetarian options are standard; anything more specific is easier to satisfy landside or at The Circle than at a gate.
